Newspaper-Based Uncertainty Indices for China

We are pleased to host several indices of Economic Policy Uncertainty for China that were developed by two different research teams:

• Scott Baker, Nick Bloom, Steven J. Davis and Xiaoxi (Sophie) Wang developed an Economic Policy Uncertainty Index for China based on the South China Morning Post. The index is monthly and runs from January 1995 to the present.
• Steven J. Davis, Dingqian Liu and Xuguang S. Sheng developed indices of Economic Policy Uncertainty and Trade Policy Uncertainty for China based on mainland newspapers. Their overall EPU Index for China is monthly and available from October 1949 to the present. Their monthly Trade Policy Uncertainty Index for China runs from January 2000 to the present.

Both teams follow the newspaper-based methods in "Measuring Economic Policy Uncertainty" by Scott R. Baker, Nicholas Bloom and Steven J. Davis.
